”Every single person in business should be able to sell.” That’s my answer to the interview question: “What is something controversial you believe that most people don’t?” The best founders of any business are often the best sales people - after all, it’s integral to getting product market fit as well as being able to communicate what pain your business solves by operating.

Technology business development is the creation and growth of new business opportunities by leveraging technology and innovation. It involves understanding customer pain, developing solutions, and delivering value through products or services that use cutting-edge technology.

I’ve worked with an airport company that had data showing how often their customers were late for their flight as they couldn’t find their gate. I came up with a millimetre perfect virtual reality scan of their duty free area and connected that to their flights API so that people could navigate effectively to their gate and see accurate timing for their flights. This solution reduced late flier times by 60% and increased the amount of shopping done in the duty-free area.

Business development is not only vital for tech companies, but also for any business that wants to keep up with the digital age. Technology can help businesses improve their efficiency, productivity, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability. It can also help businesses create new revenue streams, expand into new markets, and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

I’ve introduced new technology into 3 developing market insurers including new websites, call centre operations and customer relations management software; all of which allowed them to attract more customers, quote effectively and quickly onboard them in order to generate higher gross written premium.

As someone who is passionate about developing technology business, I benefit from staying up to date on the latest trends and developments in technology while learning new skills and tools that can help me create and implement innovative solutions. I try and go to at least one networking event in London every week with other professionals and experts who share their knowledge and experience with me. I love experimenting with different ideas and approaches and then I test them with real customers and feedback.
